George Jelinek
Professor of Emergency Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and
The University of Western Australia
Professor George Jelinek (MBSS, MD, DipDHM, FACEM ) was appointed in 1996, and was the first Professor of Emergency Medicine in Australasia. In 1989, he was founding Editor of the MEDLINE-indexed journal Emergency Medicine, and is currently Editor-in-Chief.
He has previously been President of the Australasian Society for Emergency Medicine, and Vice President of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, and is a Member of the Senior Court of Examiners of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
He has published two textbooks, Emergency Medicine Topics and Problems through Blackwell Science and Textbook of Adult Emergency Medicine through Harcourt Brace in the United Kingdom.
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, he released his book Taking Control of Multiple Sclerosis, and in 2002 began collaborating with Ian and Ruth Gawler in running residential retreats for people with MS at the Yarra Valley Living Centre. Professor Jelinek now takes a major role as a presenter and group leader for these MS residential programs.

Trudi Gallagher resides in Everett, Washington and is the Blood Management Specialist at Providence Regional Medical Centre, Everett. She has nine years experience in the blood management field and her job is multifaceted covering Transfusion Safety, Blood Conservation, Anaemia Management Consultant and Transfusion Free Care.
Trudi has been a Registered Nurse for 40 years and prior to specialising in Blood Management had extensive experience as a clinical educator, speaker, mentor and in critical care nursing. She is a strong advocate for several subjects: proper utilisation of iron, blood conservation, transfusion utilisation, the nursing profession and patient rights. Trudi is at present a member of the Implementation Board for the Western Australia Patient Blood Management Project.

Mike Lovitt graduated from WA School of Mines (Curtin) in 1988 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining), is a past president of the Council of Graduates Association, past secretary of the AusIMM Kalgoorlie Branch and is a tertiary lecturer / tutor. Mike is currently working around the world as an Underground Technical Explosives Expert with Orica. His specialist knowledge and experience relates to mass and specialty underground blasts. He has a background in mine rescue and assists the major competitions in Victoria and Western Australia.
Mike assisted the team that rescued two miners at the Beaconsfield Mine in 2006 and was nominated for WA Citizen of the Year (professions) 2002 and has authored many international technical papers.
Mike has been an occasional speaker at functions and is addressing the 35th SHPA Conference on experiences that have given rise to excellent performance. The thirst for knowledge is a never ending pursuit that is satiated briefly by success. The “Across the Divide” theme of this conference will ask people to think differently and “put yourself in someone else’s shoes”. What better way than to have a light hearted look at blowing up inanimate objects!!
